Founder

Luke Shoemaker, CPA

Luke Shoemaker, CPA is the owner of Shoemaker CPA, one of the few CPA firms in Virginia built around planning rather than compliance. He advises mass affluent and high-net-worth individuals, closely held businesses, and their owners on complex tax and financial decisions.

Unlike traditional accounting firms that center their work around compliance, Luke takes a planning-first approach, focusing on the gray areas where the tax code and financial planning intersect, and where structure and strategy drive outcomes. Rather than treating tax work as a commodity, he works with clients to develop integrated strategies that connect tax planning with broader financial decisions.

He works with a limited number of clients who are seeking a long-term advisory relationship and who value insight, clarity, and thoughtful decision-making over transactional services like tax preparation.

Our Approach

We set boundaries because they make us better advisors.

Many accounting firms answer every call. That's not a criticism; it's a pattern that's common in the industry. It also means reactive advice given between interruptions, which isn't the kind of advice that moves anyone's position forward.

Luke runs the firm differently. No unscheduled calls. No quick questions by phone. All client meetings are scheduled, which means when you're in a meeting, you have his full attention. The boundaries aren't about being inaccessible. They're about being useful when it counts.

All scheduling is handled through Calendly. If you're a current client, you already know how to reach us. If you're not yet, the button below is where to start.

The firm is growing, but not in every direction at once. The goal isn't to add clients for the sake of numbers; it's to build deeper relationships with people who benefit from coordinated tax and financial planning. That kind of work requires capacity, and capacity requires being selective.

If you're looking for a firm that will prepare your return once a year and send you a bill, there are plenty of options. If you're looking for advisors who stay in your corner year-round and make sure your tax strategy and your financial plan are actually talking to each other, that's what we're here for.

If this sounds like the kind of firm you've been looking for, let's talk.

No pressure, no pitch. A short conversation to see if we're the right fit.
